Friday Races
Juvenile Sprint The debut of the Juvenile Sprint. I'm not sure why we needed this race, and the field isn't anything special. Perhaps it will improve over time. Secret Circle is the morning line favorite, and both his figures are better than any figure earned by any other horse. This is not the type horse I want to bet on or against. There may be some value in the exacta. I may try the Euro shipper and filly Shumoos and the Wesley Ward trained Holdin Bullets. Both are unknowns on dirt but could improve on the surface.
Juvenile Filly Turf This race was good to me last year. The morning line favorite is Elusive Kate, and she certainly can win. Her Racing Post Rating puts her as the best in the race, but I'm not interested in favorites on days like this. I'm going to lean towards Sweet Cat. She made a nice move into a very hot pace while three wide last out before flattening out. A better trip today should put her right there.
Filly/Mare Sprint This looks like a two horse race to me, Turbulent Descent and Pomeroy's Pistol. Many like Switch in here, and she certainly fits with her dirt figures, but I think she is off form at the moment. TD is the most likely winner, but offers no value alone.
Juvenile Filly This year's race looks much better than last year's forgettable affair. The top figure horse and morning line favorite is My Miss Auerelia. She looks solid, but there are a few questions that might make her worth playing against. Her lone route was at one turn, and though she won, she rode a speed bias that day in my opinion. We really don't know how she'll hand extra distance and a second turn, and she was slowing down late that day. If she beats me, she beats me. The two I will consider are the Euro shipper Questing and the terrible last out trip horse Miss Netta. Both should offer a price and run well.
Filly and Mare Turf Stacelita is a tough mare that has blossomed under Chad Brown, but she'll have her work cut out here with three very tough Euro shippers. All three could win, but I'm going with the longest price of the three, Misty For Me, getting Lasix and the longer price of them all.
Ladies Classic I expect plenty of pace here with Plum Pretty, Ask the Moon, and It's Tricky running. All but Ask the Moon are contenders in my opinion, but they might all be compromised. Plum Pretty ran a huge figure last out, but it was on a ridiculously speed favoring surface. It's Tricky is a good honest filly, but 9f is pushing the edge of her distance range and it will be tough with the pressure up front. The two I see that could pick up the pieces are Royal Delta and Pachattack. One will be near favorite, the other double digits.
