Filly and Mare Sprint

1 Miss Macy Sue 6-1

She ran a big one in the high purse race at new Presque Isle downs on a Tapeta surface that was slightly more friendly to off the pace types.  The inside draw means she will should get a good early position.  This horse shows a couple of big positives.  First, she loves to win, and second, her biggest race on dirt came on a wet fast track and the track should be wet at Monmouth as well.

2 Miraculous Miss 15-1

Appears a bit too slow to compete for the win.  She was beaten at 4 to 5 last out at Philly Park.  While that race can be excused, the pace was very slow and she comes from off it, the fact she hasn't returned to her 3yo figures this year is a poor sign.

3 Dream Rush 2-1

The ML favorite is obviously a fast filly.  However, I think she is up against it here.  She has faced pretty easy competition and not had to work very hard.  That should end today, and I don't want a short price in this situation.

4 Maryfield 15-1

Her last two wins have come via nice trips behind very fast paces.  Normally I might totally dismiss this sort, but we could see the very same type pace today, so she isn't impossible.

5 Jazzy 20-1

After a tough trip loss in her U.S. debut, she is 2 for 2, including taking the G2 Gallant Blossom on dirt in her last start.  However, the figures indicate that was a poor rendition of that contest and she is up against it in here.

6 Oprah Winney 20-1

I don't like this horse at all. High early speed and should be a pace factor, but she will have company and should pack it in at the top of the lane.

7 La Traviata 5-2

A perfect 3 for 3 for trainer Patrick Biancone, who has since been relieved of his duties for violations.  Her last race was a tour de force after stumbling at the start.  She could be any kind and wouldn't surprise me with a win, but at the expected short odds, I won't be betting her.

8 Wild Gams 10-1

This one enters coming off two "artificial dirt" races.  She does have some very nice back races, and could benefit from the expected fast pace.  I like that she is 3rd off the layoff, improving, but hasn't reached her previous tops yet, one of my best angles.

9 Shaggy Mane 12-1

The horse I would expect to set the pace in here.  Given the likely pressure, I don't give her much chance of sticking around late.

10 Baroness Thatcher 12-1

Another Biancone "the snake charmer" horse, this one is cutting back from plenty of longer races and did go 6f in her last, though on polytrack.  This is yet another that likes to be near the front.  I don't like that she always seems to find a way to lose.
