Filly and Mare Turf

1 Dancing Edie 30-1

This is a very strong race. This filly's lifetime best in her last, a 103, is not going to get it done.

2 Ouija Board 8-5

This mare appears to have gotten better with age. She is obviously a strong contender after competing successfully against the best males in Europe all year. She won this race two years ago, then finished second last year despite a nightmare trip at a shorter distance. Ignore at your own risk.

3 Mauralakana 15-1

One of the few I give a shot to upset the 2. Since coming to the US and picking up Lasix, she is just a hair below Ouija Board and has had the worst of it, trying to close into slow paces.

4 Film Maker 6-1

Tough old mare always gives her best. She does though appear to have lost a half a step this year, and she was already a half step slower than the best. She could make the trifecta, but I don't see her winning this.

5 Honey Ryder 4-1

I could have pretty much copied and pasted the comments on Film Maker here. The only differences are that she hasn't lost anything yet, and she loves to win. Still, she looks a couple lengths too slow here, a bunch in a turf race.

6 Quiet Royal 30-1

First US race was a career best with 1st Lasix, a common theme among Euro shippers. However, it still was not good enough to compete here.

7 Wait a While 3-1

This filly has exploded onto the turf scene with three huge wins while crossing the country twice. She wasn't a bad horse on dirt for that matter, but turf has really moved her up. Her figures are on par with the favorite as well. The only question mark is the 11f, which makes me give a slight edge to Ouija Board, but only slight.

8 My Typhoon 20-1

She has some nice races, but they are like a few others in here, a few lengths below the top picks. She also has the big question mark of going an extra two furlongs beyond anything she has done in the past.

9 Satwa Queen 12-1

This is a VERY highly regarded filly in Europe. I don't know if she can beat the top two, but with the addition of Lasix I will certainly give her that oppurtunity at this Morning Line price. I generally add about 7 to 8 points to previous figures for first Lasix, and that puts her slightly ahead of the “Big Two” here.

10 Germance 12-1

This was NOT a very highly regarded filly in Europe. She did place in the G1 French Oaks, but that race was not very well rated. She was favored in her US debut, but didn't run very well, though to be fair the trip was tough. Still, it would take a huge leap up to win here, and I don't see it happening.

RECAP:

I can only see four horses winning here. Two are obvious favorites and highly regarded, while two are being overlooked. I think the 3, Mauralakana, and the 9 Satwa Queen, will both offer value. Of the two, I prefer Satwa Queen, especially since she has been pointed to this race all year.
