Mile (Should take around a 110 to win)
1. Host : I liked the way this horse returned from the long layoff, but it was with the odd Keeneland turf bias that existed for a few weeks, so that lifetime top is probably a bit overrated. 2. Artie Schiller : Has run two best races last two out, and was unlucky to win last when beaten by a horse that saved every inch of ground. Contender. 3. Whipper : This horse looks OK figure wise, but further scrutiny of his record shows all of his successes come in races without a turn. I'll take a pass. 4. Sand Springs : Female looks in a bit deep here, but the 10f of the FM Turf is too far. No thanks. 5. Ad Valorem: Appears a cut below G1, just a little too slow. 6. Funfair : Three for three on the US side of the pond, but probably a bit in deep here. Only a dream trip allowed the win last time, closing against a fast pace without losing ground. 7. Majors Cast : This horse looks the best of the Europeans to me. I actually like this one more than the 10, and the 10 will take a lot more action at the windows. 8. Gorella : Took the worst of it and still ran well at Keeneland, but not well enough to compete here. You have to be a special filly to beat the colts in this race, and this one is good, but nothing special. 9. Singletary : Another defending champion, and one I don't think can win. His races this year have been slower, and there is a monster horse to deal with in here. 10. Valixir : Another Euro that looks formidable, but I think this one will get pounded pretty hard despite the 10-1 ML. I prefer Majors Cast. 11. Leroidesanimaux : The Monster! I hate favorites as much as the next guy, but 8 wins in a row, the best figures. Only knocks I can see are the wide post, though that isn't so bad with a one turn mile, and Frankel's poor record in the Breeder's Cup. I've hit on him three times, Ghostzapper, Squirtle Squirt, and Starine, so I don't worry about the record so much. 12. Limehouse : A cut below, belongs on the dirt. Summary: The King of the Animals will be ultra tough here. I'll be using him over and under Artie Schiller and Majors Cast. |
