Juvenile
1: Sun King - Found himself unexpectedly on the lead last out, but put in a nice effort anyway. I'll be using this guy for sure. 2: Roman Ruler - Struggled in last to win, but did still win. Figure was a bit weak. Was it the all out, draining effort in his prior race? Or maybe the distance is just not his cup of tea? Either way, as ML favorite, I'm going to toss him out and take a shot. I make excuses for price horses, not favorites. 3: Afleet Alex - Very impressive last time. Tracked the slow pace set by Proud Accolade, and still made up ground in the end. With Roman Ruler and Consilidator putting pressure on Proud Accolade this time, the race should set up very nicely for him. My top selection. 4: Consilidator - Tough to dismiss a Lukas horse in the Juvenile, but I think the Keeneland group was much weaker than those coming in from Belmont. I'll take a stand against. 5: Scandanavia - Wildcard here, bred to like dirt being by a Derby winner. I'll look elsewhere, those turf sprints just don't seem to get these 2yo horses ready for the speedy American game. 6: Proud Accolade - Undefeated colt is tough to knock, I just think he's had easier trips than my pick here and will have a tougher go on the front end this time around. Certainly wouldn't surprise me if he won. 7: Twice Unbridled - Next... 8: Another from Europe, first on dirt, and I have no idea how he will take to it. By a BC Classic winner, so maybe, but I'll ignore this one and take my chances. Selections: Afleet Alex is my top pick, I'll box him with Sun King, and maybe use those two along with Proud Accolade and Scandanavia in the P3s. |
